"No Excuse for Poor performance"- Captain Isiaka Olawale
Isiaka Olawale, the Captain of Super Sand Eagles of Nigeria has said that there will be no excuse for poor performance in the forthcoming 2017 FIFA Beach World Cup billed for Nassau, capital of Bahamas.
Olawale said this ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on April 27 and ends May 7, 2017, noting that Nigeria have not been good in the beach soccer.
According to the captain, “It has not been easy with us preparing for the tournament, because the league in Nigeria is not good enough to give us the needed exposure.”
“But as a Captain of the team, that is not going to be an excuse for failure. We will have to do our best to make Nigeria proud, because the coaches have been doing their best to see us through,” he said.
However, coach of the team, Audu Ejor, speaking on first game against Italy assured that Nigeria would come out among the top four countries in the tournament.
“I am confident Nigeria will come out among the top four countries in the tournament; we have not played against Italy before, but I have watched them on the television.
“We are doing our best to ensure good performance, though is not going to be easy; top four is the target.
The Nigerian side that have been camped in Badagri were handed a relatively easy group in the preliminary stages which include Italy, Mexico and Asian champions, Iran.
The Supersand Eagles finished as runners-up at the 2016 African Beach Soccer Cup of Nations in Lagos to qualify for the tournament where they will be hoping to surpass their previous quarter-final best after missing out of the last two editions.
